Understand the Boundaries
The journal explains engineering questions. It does not approve equipment or replace competent assessment.
Publisher and scope
This website is published by Pavilionreelcacts Engineering Media Ltd, 42 Regent Street, Cambridge CB2 1DP, United Kingdom, company no. 15382746. Enquiries may be sent to [email protected]. These terms concern use of the freely available publication and its local text-preparation tool.
Technical information, not approval
Content is general educational information for designers, armourers and technically interested readers. It is not individual engineering advice, legal advice, a test report, a conformity assessment or a certification decision. We are not affiliated with FIE, national fencing federations, standards organisations or manufacturers mentioned in the articles.
Official rules, current standards, event instructions and manufacturer documentation take precedence over editorial summaries. Requirements can change. Verify the applicable edition and context before using information for design, purchase, maintenance or competition decisions.
Safety and equipment condition
Fencing and equipment testing involve risk. No equipment or inspection eliminates all risk. Do not use this publication to justify continuing to use damaged or suspect equipment, bypassing protective features or performing hazardous testing without appropriate competence and controls.
Remove suspect items from service and seek manufacturer guidance or competent professional assessment. Destructive, penetration, high-load and internal electrical testing require suitable facilities and procedures. A quick check, photograph or favourable scoring indication cannot establish complete safety.
